📖: 2 Kings 1:1-12
Confession: Psalm 91
“Then he sent to Elijah a captain with his company of fifty men. The captain went up to Elijah, who was sitting on the top of a hill, and said to him, “Man of God, the king says, ‘Come down!’ ” Elijah answered the captain, “If I am a man of God, may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men!” Then fire fell from heaven and consumed the captain and his men” (2 Kings 1:9-10).
God is a “consuming Fire” (Hebrews 12:29; Deuteronomy 4:24). The “Fire of God” is the amazing symbol of light signifying God’s presence before us, and also a weapon against the enemies. Often in the Old Testament, Fire was an acceptance of sacrifice offered. In the New Testament, Fire is one of the symbol of the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 10:4-5; Acts 2:3-4; Luke 24:32; Titus 2:14; 1 Peter 1:2; 1 Corinthians 6:11).
Fire is mentioned multiple times in the Bible with different purposes. The same Fire which is the Holy Ghost Fire that God uses in baptizing us, is the same Fire He uses for destroying His enemies. His wrath is poured out like Fire (Nahum 1:6). Today’s message is on the Fire of God as a weapon. It’s one of the weapons of God’s wrath and judgement on the enemies of his works (Numbers 11:1). The Fire of God is a weapon that the enemy does not have and cannot stop, because it is unstoppable, untouchable, and unquenchable.
God’s word is like fire, like a hammer that breaks every rock, mountain, situation, or circumstance into pieces (Jeremiah 23:29). The Fire of God is same Fire that God uses for deliverance and healing, and also to destroy the enemies. Some examples in the Bible of the Fire of God as a weapon; destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19:24). The presence of God-“the burning Bush” (Exodus 3:2), as protection and guidance (Exodus 13:21), and “the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and Fire” (Luke 3:16).
As Christians, we have the Holy Spirit within us and in our distress, we must call upon the Lord and He shall fight for us, and we shall hold our peace (Exodus 14:14). There’s nothing compared to the peace of God. When we call upon Him, He will hear our voice from His temple and the Fire from His mouth will devour our enemies (Psalm 18:6-8). The Lord is faithful and. He will strengthen and protect us from the evil one (2 Thessalonians 3:3).Let us fix our eyes on God, through Jesus, who will answer us and fight and destroy our enemies with His Fire. For those yet to surrender their lives to Jesus, this is not negotiable, do so now, tomorrow might be too late! DO IT NOW!
