📖: 1 Peter 2:11-17
Confession: Psalm 91
Today’s message was inspired by the lyrics of the song: “Planting My Feet On Higher Ground”.
We all at one time or the other gone through test in our lives. Some people do handle prosperity with humility and some do change their character. Prosperity can sometimes bring the worst out of us and sometimes makes one feel above the law or brings out pride and arrogance in our character. Whenever we find ourselves in position of prominence, we must strive to eliminate the influence of the flesh in our character. In 1 Peter 2:11 says “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul”
As Christians, sometimes when God gives us prosperity, we then forget who we are in Christ and forget we are the children of the Most High God. We think it’s by our strength. We forget who made it possible for us to prosper. An example is the life and reign of King Solomon. We promote ourselves rather than allowing God to promote us and take control of all our undertakings and endeavours in life. Then we develop selfish ambitions. The Bible says “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves” (Philippians 2:3). Are we close to God today than before we became prosperous?
God is not expecting us to be perfect because He created us and knows we are human. But when prosperity manifest in our lives, and we become self centered, that’s a problem. We depart from the Word of God, think less of God which may harm our relationships with God. At the end, it makes us depart from presence of God, because we hindered God’s elevation to manifest in our lives. When we are elevated, we must have humility in us and lead from the standpoint of service (1 Peter 5:5-6), through humility serve others instead of oppressing others with our wealth or societal position. Jesus was humble, though He was God who lived with us on earth in flesh.
As Christians, we must continue to grow in our understanding of higher ground which is to grow spiritually. We must have humility and surround ourselves with believers who are honest in their advice and criticism so that the flesh is under control. The flesh experiences all kinds of craving and desires and can take control of us. Let us seek the help of the Holy Spirit to develop our lives according to the attributes of the fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), a characteristic of a life changed by Jesus Christ, and plant our feet on higher ground for God’s glory. For those yet to surrender their lives to Jesus, this is not negotiable, do so now, tomorrow might be too late! DO IT NOW!
PRAY THIS; in the name of Jesus, I repent of my sins, come into my heart and I will make You my Lord and Saviour. Stay connected! Stay focused! Have a blessed day. Shalom!!!
