📖: Luke 4:1-13
Confession: Psalm 51
As human beings we are faced with temptation and it is all around us. It is universal to mankind. Temptation is a desire to engage in short-term urges for enjoyment that threatens long-term goals. It’s a test of one’s ability to choose good instead of evil. It comes in different forms and sizes. Lust and coveteousness are temptations that overcome many of us. Temptation does not come from God (James 1:13).
As Christians we must realize that the devil will never stop trying to pull us away from God. The devil’s aim is for us to stray away from God, thus our present world is full of all kinds of temptations. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it”.
Temptation can sometimes be overwhelming for Christians, but we can overcome it. Overcoming temptation, is not a simple task, one way or the other, we have been faced with temptation and we all handle it differently. Any trial we face, we must realize that it is a trying of our faith in God (James 1:3) thus we must not rely on our own ability. According to Luke 4:1-13, Jesus was tempted by the devil and He quoted the scriptures and the devil was defeated and he departed from Jesus as written in Luke 4:13.
When temptation leads us to sin against God, we must genuinely confess our sin, ask for forgiveness, and forsake our sin. We must always read, study, and meditate on the Word of God daily to strengthen, change, and renew our mind, (Romans 12:12). Finally, take the whole armour of God, the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God, pray fervent prayers (James 5:16) and God will give us the power to withstand future temptation with a way to escape. Also set our minds on things above, rather than earthly things that can lead to temptation. For those yet to surrender their lives to Jesus, this is not negotiable, do so now, tomorrow might be too late! DO IT NOW!
PRAY THIS; in the name of Jesus, I repent of my sins, come into my heart and I will make You my Lord and Saviour. Stay connected! Stay focused! Have a blessed day. Shalom!!!
