📖: Psalm 128:1-6
Confession: Psalm 27
God is the Creator of heaven and earth, He is our Creator. It is God’s command for us to fear Him (Deuteronomy 6:24). Psalm 33:8 says “Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him”. Even God asked us a question in Jeremiah 5:22 which says “Should you not fear me?” declares the Lord. “Should you not tremble in my presence? I made the sand a boundary for the sea, an everlasting barrier it cannot cross. The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail; they may roar, but they cannot cross it”.
As human beings, many of us have fear because of uncertainty, fear of failure, fear of Satan and demons, fear of losing our job, fear of terrorists, even fear of devastating weathers, rather than have the fear of the Lord in us. We sometimes take God for granted. The word “fear” simply means dread. We sometimes replace or exchange fear as respect, reverence or honor. Fear of the Lord is more than that. Psalm 111:10 teaches us that “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise”. Proverbs 1:7 is the key that unlocks the fear of the Lord which says “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction”.
Proverbs 8:13 says “To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech”. When the fear of the Lord is in us, we don’t need to fear other threats because the presence of God gives us freedom from any fear. That’s why when we sin, we must repent and ask God for forgiveness of our sins. He forgives us our sins and loves us unconditional. That’s one of the major reason we have to fear the Lord.
There is reward when we fear the Lord. He bestows His riches, favour, goodness, favour, and blessings upon our lives. The fear of the Lord is our help and shield in times of trouble (Psalm 115:11). Whenever we call upon Him, He knows our voice, hears our cry, saves us, and fulfill our heart desires (Psalm 145:19). The fear of the Lord, is godly. Having the fear of the Lord helps bring eternal benefits; it brings mercies of God upon us, it’s the fountain of life, it keeps us from sin, it helps develop our confidence, prolongs our lives (Proverbs 10:27), and He will remember His covenant forever. A book of remembrance is written for those who fear the Lord and we will have friendship with God. Other books of the Bible for references are Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, The Song of Solomon and the New Testament.
As Christians, we must ensure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all our heart; consider all the great things He has done for us (1 Samuel 12:24). This scripture text sums it all up for us Luke 1:50 “His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation”. Let us stay connected to God through Jesus Christ. Starting from today, let us strive and fear the Lord and serve Him. For those yet to surrender their lives to Jesus, this is not negotiable, do so now, tomorrow might be too late! DO IT NOW!
