📖: Zechariah 3:1-7
A Garment is an outer covering or outward appearance. The physical garment, which is any article of clothing, and the spiritual garment, which is of greater concern as it is a spiritual covering in the spirit realm. Joshua stood before the angel of the Lord in a filthy garment, (Zechariah 3:3). It means he was covered in iniquity. We all wear a spiritual garment which is not visible and can either be clean or unclean. The garment speaks or describe a lot about who we are in the spirit realm. When our spiritual garment is filthy, it means our spirit in the spiritual realm is polluted or defiled due to sin. Also, the enemy, can put a filthy garment upon one’s life in the spiritual and the person is destroyed so they can’t achieve or fulfil their preordained destiny in life.
As children of God, some of us are still leaving in secret lifestyle thereby leaving in sin and sin represents filthy garment. When we don’t address our sinful character and change our lives through genuine repentance to God, we will not be able to receive God’s promises for our lives. As it is written in Zechariah 3:1-2 which says, “Joshua stood before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him”. God commanded those that stood before Joshua, saying, “Take away the filthy garments from him”. To Joshua, God said, Behold, I have taken away your sin, and put fine garments on you”. (Zechariah 3:3-4). Satan is our accuser before God and he is very cunning in his schemes and devices in trapping people into sinning against God. But when we repent of our sins and change our ways, God will forgive us our sins. He will remove the filthy garment from us, and we will have access to the presence of God. It takes the mercy and grace of God to remove filthy garment imposed upon ourselves or it is imposed upon our lives by the enemy.
According to Mark 10:46-52, blind Bartimaeus called upon Jesus to have mercy on him. Bartimaeus, before getting to Jesus, the scripture verse says, he “cast away” his (beggarly garment) filthy garment before he getting to Jesus to receive his healing. As Christians, in order for us to change our character and avoid wearing a filthy garment, we must ask God for forgiveness and repent from our sins. With our relationship with God, through the help of the Holy Spirit, and prayers, we will be able to wear the garment of righteousness. For those yet to surrender their lives to Jesus, this is not negotiable, do so now, tomorrow might be too late. DO IT NOW!
