📖: Psalm 103:1-22
It is healthy to talk positively to ourselves. It helps develop our spiritual growth that brings about faith and personal change. Matthew 9:11 says “She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
We are constantly talking to ourselves and our mind is talking to us. By so doing, we are developing our mind and conditioning our thoughts when going through any situation or circumstances that causes us pain. Proverbs 4:23 says “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it”. Talking to ourselves in a positive manner reminds us of what the Lord has done for us (Psalm 103:3-5). Sometimes we find ourselves in difficult situations, trials, inner dialogue, persistent circumstances, even struggling with our doubts, fear, and unbelief. During this period, we owe it to ourselves not to allow our mind to escalate to negative thoughts because it could become self destructive. Don’t pity yourself. Be honest with yourself.
The human mind is very powerful and the moment we allow it to process any negative thoughts, it’s stored in our hearts and the heart could be deceitful and wicked, because once something especially a negative thought is kept there, nobody can see it except ourselves and God. When a negative thought manifests in one’s heart, it is very difficult to erase because it cannot be seen. We can go about our activities, normally projecting falsehood all around, but our conscience is not at peace, it is imprisoned. It is war within. How long can one go on in such a miserable way? When we allow negative thoughts in our mind; that which we fear most and worried about, will take root and manifest physically in our lives because we gave that seed the fertilizer needed to germinate through our negative thoughts.
When faced with adverse situations, we must not allow it to worry our thoughts or mind, rather allow the Word of God to take full control, meditate, and memorize scriptures, speak or confess the Word of God upon every area situation and circumstances affecting our lives, (Psalms 42:5; 55:22). Sometimes, we are architects of our problems by not obeying God and His Word but worrying over earthly things, rather than things in heaven, (Colossians 3:2).
The book of Psalms, illustrates how David encouraged himself with the Word of God (Psalm 30:6). When we have the Word of God in our hearts, there will be no space for negative thoughts in our hearts and it will not take root in our mind, leaving only room for positive, good, right, and true things (Philippians 4:8). To improve ourselves, we must make it a habit of telling ourselves the truth, confessing positivity into our lives thereby our self-esteem will also improve and will not give room to any negative thoughts in our lives. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Let us focus on our relationship with God through Jesus Christ and with the help of the Holy Spirit, we will fix our thoughts and mind positivily. Have a blessed weekend. Shalom!!!
