📖: Psalm 16:1-11
Confidence is what we all strive to have to enable us to succeed in life. To have confidence is to believe in oneself and one’s power or abilities; but true confidence is to have full trust, belief, and faith in God.
Psalm 118:8-9 says “it is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes”. According to the book of Jeremiah 17:7 it is written that we should put our confidence in the Lord. Anyone who believes in Him will never be put to shame (Romans 10:11).
We must remember that self-confidence is not self importance. Without humility self-confidence can lead to pride and arrogance, which is sinful to God. Philippians 3:3 says we must not put confidence in the flesh. When we rely on any other source of confidence, we will fail on our own strength. When our confidence is outside of God’s confidence, we can become discouraged, afraid, angry, scared, and confused when our plans or goals does not succeed.
As Christians, we can fall under the illusion of the worldly definition of confidence and when our confidence comes from a source other than God’s confidence, we will not be able to maintain it, rather, we will be disappointed.
“Self-confidence has limited potential but God’s confidence has unlimited possibility” Renee Swope.
When we put our confidence in the Lord, whatever good work He begins in our lives, He will carry it to completion (Philippians 1:6).
The Word of God teaches us how to acquire and sustain self-confidence through God’s promises for our lives, the Holy Spirit that dwells in us, prayer, and meditation on His Word. That self-confidence will in turn increase our faith in God. We must realize that It is not by our might nor power, but by the Holy Spirit (Zechariah 4:6).
We should approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16).
Let us strive to have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ and enjoy the benefits of God’s confidence for our lives. Have a blessed day. Shalom!!!
